Snake Pass is getting a physical release in the near future for the Nintendo Switch. This announcement comes from developer Sumo Digital saying that they will release the game in partnership with Super Rare Games.
Super Rare Games is a London-based company known for taking smaller video games that are available in digital form only and converting them to physical copies for the Nintendo Switch specifically. Popular titles from the past include Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Human: Fall Flat with Snake Pass joining the growing list soon enough.
The announcement comes from both Super Rare Games and Sumo Digital’s official Twitter pages. Snake Pass‘s physical copy does not have an official release date at the time, though it is planned to release within the next few months. The limited edition version of the game will come with a couple extra goodies as well, including collectible trading cards and a Super Rare Games sticker. The price of the game has not yet been announced, but Super Rare Games typically lists their game’s for $35.

Super Rare Games has released limited editions of eShop games in the past and more are on the horizon. On August 20th, a physical copy of game developer Renegade Kid’s Mutant Mudds is being released by the company and is limited to just 4,000 copies. Even though Mutant Mudds was ported over to the Switch early on in the console’s lifespan, hardcore collectors and fans of the game will likely want to grab a copy before they sell out and Snake Pass will be no different.
Snake Pass might be a hard pass for many consumers who already played the game previously, however. With the increased price point, it might be difficult to stray away from getting the game digitally for those still planning on purchasing it. There are also no plans for the game to get physically released for other consoles which is limiting as well. Still, Snake Pass received a fairly favorable response from the public and it’s not hard to imagine collectors picking up a copy of the game a second time in physical form.
Companies such as Super Rare Games as well as Limited Run Games show that physical copies of games are still wanted by the public, despite seeming like a dying breed of distribution. With the industry’s push toward going all digital, physical copies of smaller indie titles are rare. Despite that, Super Rare Games is helping to keep physical media alive.
Snake Pass is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
