Overwatch Teases New Rolling Character?

Overwatch Teases New Rolling Character?

A few days ago, Overwatch posted a strange clip on Twitter of an alleyway plastered with anti-Omnic propaganda. Some fans speculated that this clip was teasing a new map or event, but the team added a new twist to it that has now led many to believe it is actually a tease for the next playable hero, currently known only as Hero 28.

In the updated clip, Overwatch fans can see a large rolling ball tumble through the alley. It moves too fast to catch too many details, but it does appear as though the ball is robotic in nature. Considering this, it’s possible the ball itself is the new character, and could be a new kind of Omnic – the race of robotic people in Overwatch lore.

Other theories point to the ball having something to do with previously teased heroes, like the space monkey Hammond. It’s possible Hammond is a gorilla like Winston, but he could also be the monkey seen on the “No Bots” poster in the clip below. The truth is we don’t know much about Hammond beyond the fact that he escaped from the Horizon Lunar Colony (which is also mentioned in a poster in the clip) by attaching his escape pod to Winston’s, so it’s possible this rolling ball is tech he’s created or maybe even part of his escape pod.

Another theory is that this rolling ball has something to do with the Junkertown Queen. Ever since the Junkertown map was introduced to the game, fans have speculated thatat the Junkertown Queen would one day be made a playable character, given her unique design and weapon that can be seen on posters throughout the map. It’s possible that if the next hero is the Junkertown Queen, then this ball is some kind of weapon she has, maybe even part of her Ultimate ability.

It’s also possible that this clip isn’t teasing a new playable hero at all, but rather a new map (as previously assumed) or even a new in-game event. Past events have seen players fight off Omnic forces, so maybe this rolling character is a new enemy type that players will have to face off against.

Of course, that’s just speculation at this time. Fans won’t have any concrete details about the next hero or what this clip is teasing until the Overwatch team is ready to share more information. In the meantime, expect teasers like this to continue until Blizzard is ready to move forward with the full reveal.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
