With PAX West kicking off today, gamers can look forward to plenty of updates and new announcements for their favorite games and series. To start the weekend right, developer Telltale Games discussed The Walking Dead: Season Three during a panel today.
The new season will follow series protagonist Clementine and will take place a few years after Season Two. The story of The Walking Dead: Season Three will focus on Clementine and a new character, Javier, and both characters will be playable in the new season.
Telltale Games executive producer, Kevin Boyle, provided some information about the storyline during the panel:
Javier will begin to unravel the mystery of who Clementine has become, as her story intersects with his–both of them still driven by the things they value most long after society’s collapse.
As expected, The Walking Dead: Season Three will follow the same episodic formula that the franchise and developer have become famous for. Gamers can pick up the title digitally, or they can opt for a “Season Pass Disc” on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The disc will come loaded with the first episode, and players will need to download subsequent episodes when they release.
Since debuting the first season of The Walking Dead in 2012, Telltale Games has grown to become one of the most well-known and respected developers in the industry. The studio produced a number of titles before The Walking Dead, including Jurassic Park: The Game and Back to the Future: The Game, but neither received the same attention that The Walking Dead did. Granted, Telltale Games also gained a little renown for its Sam & Max games, but it didn’t take off until The Walking Dead.
Since then, there seems to be no stopping the developer from taking on some of the most iconic stories and characters of today. Game of Thrones, Minecraft: Story Mode, and Batman: The Telltale Series have all experienced strong positive results and expanded the developer’s influence.
With such a strong recent history, gamers will undoubtedly have high expectations for The Walking Dead: Season Three, as well as Telltale’s other upcoming titles, including a Marvel game and Game of Thrones: Season Two. As long as the developer holds to its previous quality, gamers should have no reason to worry that the upcoming games will provide the same fun and compelling experience as Telltale’s past games.
