Overwatch Releasing Nerf Reaper Shotguns

Overwatch Releasing Nerf Reaper Shotguns

Just a couple of months ago, Blizzard Entertainment announced a partnership with Hasbro to bring actual Nerf gun replicas of certain weapons from the popular team-based shooter Overwatch into the real world. Now, it looks as if the first choice that the video game developer and toy company have settled on as its debut gun in the Nerf Rival product line is the fan-favorite character Reaper’s Hellfire Shotgun.

As seen in the tweet below from the official Overwatch Twitter account, fans can get a gander at what one of Reaper’s shotguns will look like when the Nerf weapon becomes available for purchase at some point next year. Unfortunately, though, the tweet doesn’t offer up any footage of someone actually firing the replica gun to shoot Nerf ammo, so there’s no telling exactly how it will handle upon its release date. However, it has been revealed that the gun will hold eight rounds, and be a fully-functional with a spring-action mechanism, a ready indicator, and a safety lock.

As far as the next Overwatch-inspired Nerf gun is concerned, neither Blizzard nor Hasbro have offered a hint as to what its future plans are for the Nerf Rival line. Of course, the team-based shooter game’s roster of heroes certainly has a slew of solid characters with unique weapon-types that would make wonderful Nerf products, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what will come next.

There’s no doubt that many Overwatch fans – particularly collectors – would like to see most, if not all of the game’s guns transition into the real world as Nerf toys, but there are some that might not work so well when it comes to what their firing capabilities are like, and how Nerf ammo would be utilized. For instance, the Soldier 76‘s Heavy Pulse Rifle and Pharah’s Rocket Launcher could operate similarly to other Nerf products that have been made in the past, but weapons like Lucio’s Sonic Amplifier and Mei’s Endothermic Blaster might not fit in the Nerf world.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
